Devlog #0 Ahul, the journey of Tajaraste begins.

Ahul. Welcome to our first devlog for Tajaraste. We have a long road ahead, filled with research and historical studies. Join us on this journey as we learn, create, and draw inspiration from the echoes of the past. We want to share this process from the very beginning, as it has already become a beautiful learning experience about the ancient mythology of the Canary Islands — a mythology that has survived against all odds.
What is Tajaraste?
Tajaraste is a fantasy adventure game inspired by the pre-Hispanic mythology of the Canary Islands.
The player takes on the role of a young girl deeply connected to nature, who dreams of becoming a Harimaguada, a priestess of the island of Gran Canaria.
When an ancient malevolent deity, Guayota, threatens to break the sacred seals that keep him imprisoned within the heart of a volcano, our protagonist must seek the help of the great gods of the islands to restore balance and prevent catastrophe.
With this project, we hope to honor our memory and identity while crafting an adventure that players can truly connect with.
We chose to embark on this journey out of love for our land. Even though we know it well, there are always hidden details waiting to be rediscovered. These echoes of the past are something we want to rescue and share.
Cultural and Mythological Research
We are studying everything related to the pre-Hispanic settlements:
how people lived, their religious rites, and their customs.
We are especially interested in the role of priestesses and their connection to the various gods of the islands.
Mythical creatures also play a significant role in the story: major gods, minor deities, and malevolent entities from ancient lore.
Visual References
We are researching the diverse landscapes, the native flora and fauna, and the symbolism associated with different places and communities.
Pintaderas and petroglyphs are elements we would love to incorporate meaningfully into the game.
Through ancient artistic expressions, we can see how people decorated their world, and we want these details to bring personality to the world we are building.
Narrative and Emotional Themes
We want the game to have a strong narrative component — one that helps the player connect with the main character and the hero’s journey she must undertake.
The player will accompany her through her personal and spiritual growth as she steps out of her comfort zone and discovers her true potential.
Our initial ideas point toward an exploration-focused game with a strong narrative, including puzzle-solving and small decision-making moments.
Even so, the experience will be quite linear, with a single possible ending.
We are also considering light combat, featuring confrontations with dark entities using traditional weapons such as toletes or stones.
However, all of this is subject to change as the project evolves and grows.
